165.000 German lawyers are affected by the regulation of their profession; in relation to their interactions with their colleagues as well as their interactions with their clients. The potential for conflict is considerable, but the supply of legal services in defence of legal professionals in these matters is small. SCHMITZ KNOTH provides practical and legal advice to legal professionals based on long-standing experience. Traditionally, our partners have occupied positions in the courts assigned to matters of law governing lawyers, in bar association committees, as well as the “Satzungsversammlung”, the parliament of the Federal Bar Association (Bundesrechtsanwaltskammer). Our senior partner, Dr Michael Wüllrich, occupied a seat at the Federal Supreme Court (Senate for law governing lawyers) for 17 years, as well as at the Cologne bar association’s (Rechtsanwaltskammer Köln) pre-decision committee for the Fachanwalt in Intellectual Property Law. Dr Claus Recktenwald has been representing us at the “Satzungsversammlung” and previously occupied the positions of treasurer at the state chapter of the German bar association (DAV), and chairman of the bar association of Bonn (Bonner AnwaltVerein e.V.). Dr Florian Höld succeeded him in this appointment. Dr Markus Schäfer is a judge at the Court of First Instance for law governing lawyers in Cologne; Dr Guido Plassmeier, as a member of the board of the Cologne bar association (Rechtsanwaltskammer Köln), presides over the pre-decision committee for the Fachanwalt in commercial and corporate law and the Fachanwalt for international corporate law. Aside from our institutional functions, our practice extends to acting for parties in disputes between multiple parties of lawyers, which makes us proud as it demands our absolute integrity.
